The University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) has named Allisen Penn the associate dean for UGA Cooperative Extension and outreach. Penn comes to UGA having spent the previous decade as a regional program leader for University of Tennessee Extension in Nashville.

Radon, an odorless, colorless and tasteless gas, is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S., but it can be detected and mitigated with the help of local University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service offices across the state.

The shortage of affordable and healthy housing is nothing new for communities across the South, but new trends in infill building and gentrification have exacerbated these shortages in many cities and towns in Georgia.
For more than a decade, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offered through the UGA College of Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) has provided free tax help to Georgians with moderate incomes, persons with disabilities, the elderly and limited-English-speaking taxpayers. The program has expanded through UGA Cooperative Extension and now offers assistants to taxpayers in more rural areas of Georgia via the internet. (file photo) CAES News
