Throughout the week of April 19, University of Georgia Cooperative Extension is honoring the thousands of volunteers who facilitate 4-H, Master Gardener and Family and Consumer Sciences programming on the county, district and state levels for Volunteer Appreciation Week.
Georgia 4-H is offering two summer camps for military dependents, ages 14-18. Applications are due May 15. CAES News

The University of Georgia 4-H program has coordinated military dependent camps since 2010 at locations in Georgia and Florida. Teen dependents, ages 14-18, of military service members are invited to apply before May 1 for the two summer camps.

In 2010, the Georgia 4-H Southwest District Program Development Coordinator, Laura Perry Johnson, established a collaboration with the AmeriCorps Volunteers In Service To America (VISTA) program as a way to extend the capacity of 4-H youth programs and strengthen the impacts in the Southwest District 4-H. To date, more than 55 full-time VISTAs have dedicated a full year of service to Georgia 4-H.

Each spring, thousands of K-12 students attend environmental education camps at Georgia 4-H facilities across the state. They hold snakes, hike through creeks and marshes, visit historic sites and enjoy nature; all with a goal of learning about the environment. Since the COVID-19 outbreak has public schools closed, school buses parked and Georgians sheltered in place, the Georgia 4-H Environmental Education Program is now being offered virtually.

More than 1,500 fourth, fifth and sixth graders will now have the opportunity to participate in Georgia 4-H’s first Virtual Cloverleaf Project Achievement contest. Last year, more than 3,700 youth participated in Cloverleaf Project Achievement contests. Due to recent developments, five competitions around the state will now take place in an online format. While 13 in-person competitions were originally scheduled, area contestants in Bacon, Douglas, Emanuel, Houston and Jackson counties will now have the opportunity to participate virtually.

More than 400 Georgia 4-H youth, leaders and volunteers visited Atlanta for Georgia 4-H Day at the Capitol, sponsored by Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, on Feb. 6 at the Georgia State Capitol Building and the Georgia Freight Depot. This annual leadership and civic-engagement event connects 4-H youth with Georgia legislators, provides students insight to the legislative process and allows them to thank legislators and donors. Georgia 4-H has participated in 4-H Day at the Capitol for more than 30 years.
Georgia 4-H plans to officially dedicate the newly restored chapel at Rock Eagle 4-H Center during a ceremony set for June 28, during Georgia 4-H State Council. Just shy of a year after an electrical fire gutted the interior of the building, the restoration of the chapel is nearing completion. CAES News
