He experienced it firsthand at the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, with professors who tailored their instruction so he could best learn. The incoming CAES Alumni Board president graduated with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural mechanization technology in 1986.

On June 9, Gopinath “Gopi” Munisamy, Distinguished Professor of Agricultural Marketing and interim head of the University of Georgia Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, shared the agricultural impact of trade issues with the Senate Subcommittee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, chaired by U.S. Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia.

Standing in the new darkness of a 100-acre wood on a recent summer evening, a group of University of Georgia entomology graduate students witnessed magic in the air — literally — as thousands of fireflies of different species rose from the forest floor to flash their luminescent love songs to hopeful mates hiding below.

Those who are lucky enough to escape violence face many challenges, from finding a safe place to live to securing employment, but another threat could further jeopardize their ability to survive — an increased risk of illness.

Competitors at the Georgia 4-H State Horse Show reined in the awards at the Georgia National Fair Grounds in Perry. Held from June 7 to 11, the event welcomed 129 contestants who competed in five main disciplines including stock seat, ranch horse, hunt seat, saddle seat and contest events. The theme of the 2022 show was “Stirrup the Fun.”

Food technology entrepreneur James Gratzek will serve as the next director of the Food Product Innovation and Commercialization Center on the University of Georgia Griffin campus, according to the Department of Food Science and Technology at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.
The staff at the University of Georgia's J. Phil Campbell Sr. Research and Education Center will host their annual corn boil and farm tour on June 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tours of the farm will be followed by a community corn boil. CAES News

The leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers is radon, a naturally occurring, odorless gas that is common to much of Georgia. Radon claims 21,000 lives annually, including around 800 in Georgia.
