University of Georgia Cooperative Extension cotton economist Don Shurley says that Georgia cotton farmers can expect prices to remain low for their crop until worldwide demand improves. Shurley will give a detailed report on Georgia’s cotton crop at three of the 2016 Georgia Ag Forecast events set for January 2016.

The University of Georgia Tifton Campus Conference Center will host the fourth annual Unmanned Systems in Precision Agriculture Conference on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 3 and 4, 2016. The conference will provide updates on the latest research regarding agricultural drone use and the proposed federal and state regulations.

Todd Applegate, associate head of the Department of Animal Sciences at Indiana’s Purdue University, has been tapped to lead the University of Georgia’s Department of Poultry Science. He will take the helm starting on Jan. 8.

In an effort to use the latest technological advancements to benefit families, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences a $72,000 grant.

The Georgia Agricultural Hall of Fame has two new members: former U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss and the late Thomas Richard Breedlove Sr., a pioneering northeast Georgia dairy farmer. Breedlove and Chambliss were inducted Sept. 25 as part of the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Alumni Banquet and Awards Ceremony.

The newest addition to the University of Georgia Tifton Campus faculty has a hefty goal: train the best agriculture teachers in the nation and produce enough graduates to fill all of the open agricultural education teaching positions in Georgia.

Prabhu Pingali, director of the Tata-Cornell University Initiative for Agriculture and Nutrition, will speak April 7 at 4 p.m. in the Georgia Museum of Art as part of this year’s International Agriculture Day on the University of Georgia campus in Athens.
