Second Annual Equine Education Day to be held in Fulton County

By Katie Gazda

Fulton County Cooperative Extension will be all about horses at their 2nd Annual Equine Education Day set for Saturday, April 28.

Young people interested in horses should make plans to join the Fulton County Extension staff, the Atlanta Black Rodeo Association and the Horse Industry Committee of Georgia from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as they present the Wonderful World of Horses.

The event, which will take place at Camp Fulton-Truitt 4-H Center in College Park, hopes to introduce youth to the equine industry in a hands-on way.

“Once again, we hope children and teens who attend this event will look at the equine industry as a career option,” said Menia Chester, director of Fulton County Extension. “In 2011, over 400 kids participated and enjoyed the day.”

Attendees will enjoy a mini-rodeo, learn the importance of proper horse care and have the chance to observe various styles of riding.

Equine educators from the University of Georgia and Fort Valley State University will also be on hand to talk about various career opportunities within both the equine industry and agriculture as a whole.

Registration is encouraged for this free event. To register or for more information, call the Fulton Extension office at (404) 332-2400 or email uge1121@uga.edu by Tuesday, April 24.
